Cerita Artis Terengganu (Bidang Seni/Penulisan/Sukan/Sastera)

Dari negeri Terengganu terdapat beberapa artis terkenal yang pernah mewarnai seni suara di tanah air Malaysia. Di antaranya ialah Komposer Manan Ngah yang berasal dari Dungun (Sura Gate/Kampung Teluk Lipat). Beliau begitu terkenal dalam tahun awal 80an. Adik-beradik beliau (abang kepada beliau?) yang terkenal dalam seni lukis kartun/komik adalah Kartunis Abdul Fatah yang terkenal dengan watak kartun hasil karyanya Lagak A.Mahmud yang tersiar dalam majalah Gila-Gila. Blog ini mendapat maklumat yang watak A.Mahmud itu sebenarnya ada di daerah Dungun (aku pernah tersua-dan pernah bersalam) tetapi sejauh manakah watak dan jalan cerita dalam komik tersebut serupa dengan pak cik A.Mahmud itu tidaklah aku ketahui, mungkin hanya mengambil namanya sahaja. Apa yang pasti pakcik A.Mahmud memang mempunyai vespa!

HAJI YUSOF OSMAN Kanan, KARTEKANA,kiri,GAYOUR tengah.

YO atau Yusof Osman ialah satu karakter yang kreatif dan unik. Dilahirkan pada 30 September 1958 di Kuala Lumpur, nama YO diambil dari huruf pangkal nama beliau sendiri, Yusof, dan bapanya, Osman.

Hikayat YO yang unik

Mula melukis sejak di bangku sekolah lagi, dan secara serius pada tahun 1976. Beliau berkecimpung dalam bidang ini atas minat dan desakan diri sendiri.

Sebelum itu, beliau pernah melakukan berbagai pekerjaan, antaranya pernah melukis mural, cat mengecat, bekerja di kilang peluru, menjadi pelukis grafik di TV Pendidikan, berniaga di pasar malam, menjual ikan, menjadi pembuat teh tarik, pereka letak dan menjadi artis editorial di akhbar The Star.

YO kemudiannya menyertai Kumpulan Karangkraf sebagai pelukis ilustrasi. Di situ beliau mula menyumbangkan karya kartunnya yang terkenal, Muzik Video Gelihati (MVGH) untuk majalah Gelihati. Gelihati ketika itu diterajui oleh Kartekana dengan barisan kartunis seperti Namron, Afiza, Piah dan Rodin.

Pada 1989, YO telah ditawarkan jawatan editor untuk majalah Gelihati menggantikan Kartekana. Beliau kekal di kerusi tersebut untuk beberapa tahun.

Sehingga kini, kartunis yang sudah bergelar Haji ini masih lagi berkarya di bawah bumbung Kumpulan Karangkraf.

KEHEBATAN kisah dan mitos rakyat yang diwarisi sejak zaman-berzaman menyimpan banyak potensi dan nilai komersial yang mampu mengangkat martabat komik tempatan khususnya komik berbahasa Melayu ke persada antarabangsa.

Bagaimanapun kesan daripada lambakan komik import yang menguasai pasaran pada masa kini menyebabkan penerbit dan kartunis tempatan terus terkongkong dalam pasaran yang sempit.

Itu antara pandangan dan luahan Pengarah Urusan Creative Enterprise Sdn. Bhd (CESB), Jaafar Taib, 60, individu yang menjadi tulang belakang dalam penerbitan majalah Gila-Gila.

Sebagai salah seorang pelukis komik veteran, Jaafar berkata, industri komik tempatan tidak mampu ‘pergi lebih jauh’ sekiranya identiti Melayu tidak diangkat dalam penghasilan komik tempatan.

“Industri kita sebenarnya mempunyai ‘modal’ yang cukup hebat untuk diketengahkan dalam penerbitan komik.

“Kisah dan watak yang beridentitikan budaya dan masyarakat setempat mampu berdiri sama tinggi dengan karya-karya antarabangsa. Jadi kita tak perlu berkiblatkan komik Jepun dan Hong Kong untuk berjaya,” katanya.

Antara komik-komik karya anak kelahiran Alor Gajah, Melaka itu sejak dari tahun 1970-an termasuk Ratu Ular, Dewi Aladin, Sesat Di Sebuah Planet, Sindbad, Matahari Pun Tenggelamlah dan Aga-Aga.

Jaafar berkata, pasaran komik berbahasa Melayu yang semakin mengecil berpunca daripada sikap syarikat penerbitan yang tidak mahu memberi peluang kepada komik-komik beridentiti tempatan untuk bersaing.

“Kita tidak nafikan pengaruh hebat komik-komik antarabangsa tapi komik-komik Melayu juga mempunyai daya tarikan tersendiri.

“Sekiranya diolah dengan penceritaan dan grafik yang baik tiada sebab komik kita tidak boleh bersaing.

“Meskipun komik kita dahulu dipengaruhi lukisan komik popular seperti Tarzan, Vampirella dan Conan, kartunis tetap kreatif dalam penerapan unsur-unsur tempatan,” ujar beliau yang terkenal dengan siri-siri lukisan unggas bertajuk Birds of Malaysia.

Justeru itu katanya, era kegemilangan komik Melayu yang pernah mewarnai pasaran kira-kira 30 tahun lalu perlu dihidupkan semula dengan mengenal pasti cabaran dan halangan dalam dunia penerbitan semasa.

Tambah beliau, antara pendekatan yang harus dilakukan adalah dengan meningkatkan tahap profesionalisme dalam penerbitan dan mengkaji taktik pemasaran syarikat-syarikat penerbitan komik antarabangsa.

“Jika dahulu kartunis bekerja sendirian menghasilkan komik kini mereka mungkin perlu bekerja dalam satu pasukan.

“Harus belajar bagaimana Jepun menguasai pasaran komik dunia bukan meniru bulat-bulat gaya lukisan mereka. Cara itu tidak akan ke mana,” katanya.

Penghias muka depan majalah Gila-Gila, Zainal 

ZAINAL Buang Hussin menunjukkan sebahagian daripada komik yang pernah dihasilkan sepanjang penglibatannya sebagai seorang kartunis.

ZAINAL Buang Hussein merupakan antara nama yang tidak asing dalam dunia penerbitan kartun dan komik tanah air.

Kehebatan ilustrasi dan kekuatan mesej melalui karya-karya yang dihasilkan meletakkan beliau sebaris dengan kartunis tersohor negara seperti Datuk Azman Yusuf, Jaafar Taib dan Rejabhad.

Lebih dikenali melalui imej kereta sports dan wanita seksi yang sering menjadi penghias muka depan majalah Gila-Gila, Zainal merupakan antara contoh kartunis versatil tanah air.

Walaupun tidak pernah menerima pendidikan secara formal di dalam bidang seni lukis, beliau membuktikan bakat semulajadi yang dianugerahkan kepadanya bukan sesuatu yang tidak harus disia-siakan.

Bakat seni lukis yang dimiliki disedari ketika berusia tujuh tahun dan sejak itu Zainal tidak pernah berpaling ke belakang daripada impian untuk bergelar seorang pelukis.

“Semuanya bermula di reban ayam milik bapa. Ketika itu saya melukis menggunakan arang kayu api yang diambil dari dapur.

“Masa itu tiada lagi pensil warna dan cat. Melukis pun secara sembunyi-sembunyi,” ujar anak kelahiran Kampung Tengah, Kluang, Johor ketika ditemui S2, baru-baru ini.

Bermula dari ‘studio’ kecil di belakang rumahnya, Zainal menjadikan dinding dan lantai reban ayam bapanya sebagai ‘kanvas’ untuk mengasah bakatnya.

Di bangku sekolah, bakat yang ditonjolkan Zainal sering mendapat perhatian guru-guru sehingga beliau dianugerahkan gelaran seniman kecil sekolah.

“Selepas menyedari bakat saya, guru sering memberi tugasan menghias bangunan sekolah dan membuat demonstrasi melukis,” ujar pemilik ruangan Wak Punk dan Tong Kosong di dalam majalah Gila-Gila itu lagi.

Bagaimanapun katanya, minat terhadap seni lukis sering diperlekeh oleh rakan-rakan sekolah.

“Di sekolah saya banyak menghabiskan masa di perpustakaan. Bukan membaca tapi melihat dan mengkaji lukisan-lukisan di dalam buku.

“Dari situ saya mula belajar melukis objek yang lebih sukar,” ujar penerima anugerah Tokoh Penggiat Kartun Malaysia 2012 itu.

Beliau yang juga bekas Presiden Persekutuan Kartun Selangor dan Wilayah Persekutuan itu juga pernah menghasilkan 10 buah novel dan menjadi pelukis poster filem sekitar tahun 90-an seperti Panglima Salleh, Tuan Besar dan Nasib Si Badul.

Zainal yang pernah bertugas sebagai sebagai ilustrator bersama Kumpulan Utusan pada 1975 kini lebih menumpukan bakat seninya dalam penghasilan lukisan bercorak abstrak.
